Privacy Policy

DateOptimizer ("we", "us", "our") operates the DateOptimizer Chrome extension and website (dateoptimizer.com). This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. What We Collect
When you use the DateOptimizer extension, we collect the following data, all of which is necessary to provide the extension's core analytics and profile optimization features:
- Swipe activity — the action (like, pass, super like), timestamp, and metadata about the profile you swiped on (name, age, photo count, verified status). We do not store photos of people you swipe on.
- Match data — when matches occur, Tinder user IDs, match source (normal, super like, boost, etc.), and time-to-match duration.
- Match profile data — publicly visible profile information from your matches, including name, age, bio, photo count (not the photos themselves), interests, prompts, job, school, height, distance, gender, orientation, pronouns, and verified status. Used to power demographic insights and conversation analytics.
- Your profile snapshots — photos, bio, job, school, interests, and settings from your dating profile edit page, captured when you click "Import Profile" or "Test New Profile." Your profile photos are transmitted to our servers for backup, and in a future update may be used for automated analysis (see Section 5).
- Conversation data — message timestamps, sender (you or them), message type (text, GIF, media), message text, media URLs (e.g., GIF links from Tenor or Giphy), and match source. Used to compute opener effectiveness, response rates, GIF performance, and conversation depth.
- Date records — if you use the "I went on a date" feature, we store the match name, date, and your confirmation. This is manual and optional.
- Page context on tinder.com — the extension checks which section of tinder.com you are on (e.g., recs, messages, profile edit) to determine which features to activate. It does not record your browsing history outside of Tinder. Anonymous section names (e.g., 'recs', 'messages') may be included in analytics to help us understand feature usage. We do not track browsing activity on any other website.
- Email address — provided during setup, used for account identification and communications.
- Extension diagnostics — error logs and selector health reports to monitor extension functionality.
- Anonymous usage analytics — e.g., which features you use, session duration, swipe counts — sent to our analytics provider to help us improve the product. No personal information or Tinder profile data is included in analytics.
2. How We Collect It
The extension reads data from the Tinder Web page DOM (Document Object Model) while you use tinder.com. It does not intercept API calls, modify the page, or access your Tinder account credentials. All detection is passive — the extension only reads what is visible on screen.
3. Where Your Data Is Stored
- Locally — all data is stored in Chrome's built-in storage (IndexedDB and extension storage) on your device.
- Our servers — data is periodically synced to our servers to enable cross-device backup, restore, and analytics features.
4. Data Security
We take the security of your data seriously:
- All data transmitted between the extension and our servers is sent over a secure connection (HTTPS).
- Data stored on our servers is hosted on infrastructure that provides encryption at rest.
- We follow the principle of least privilege — the extension only requests the minimum permissions necessary to function.
5. How We Use Your Data
- Your dashboard — to compute and display your personal match rate, profile version comparisons, messaging analytics, and other insights.
- Backup and restore — to let you recover your data on a new device or after reinstalling the extension.
- Photo analysis (planned) — in a future update, your profile photos may be processed by a third-party AI service to extract descriptive labels (e.g., "outdoor photo", "group photo", "selfie"). This would help show you which types of photos perform best. Only your photos would be analyzed — we will never send photos of people you swipe on. If and when this feature is introduced, photos will be sent solely for label extraction; we will not grant the AI service any rights to your photos beyond this processing. We will update this policy with the specific provider before enabling this feature.
- Product improvement — to identify bugs, monitor selector health, and improve the extension's reliability.
- Product improvement — we may use anonymized, aggregated data to improve the extension's features and recommendations. This data is stripped of all personally identifiable information and cannot be traced back to any individual user.
- Communications — to send you product updates, tips to improve your match rate, and occasional marketing emails. You can unsubscribe at any time.
6. What We Never Do
- We never sell your personal data to third parties.
- We never share your individual profile, swipes, matches, or conversations with anyone.
- We never use your data for personalized or interest-based advertising.
- We never share your data with advertising platforms, data brokers, or information resellers.
- We never access your Tinder login credentials or authentication tokens.
- We never modify the Tinder website or interfere with its functionality.
- We never use your data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
7. Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as you have an active account. Local data persists in Chrome's extension storage until you uninstall the extension or clear the data manually. Server-side data is retained for as long as your account exists. When you request account deletion, all server-side data is permanently removed within 30 days. If you uninstall the extension and do not request deletion, server-side data is retained to enable account recovery and backup restoration.
8. Your Rights
You can:
- Access your data — all your data is visible in the extension dashboard.
- Delete your data — uninstall the extension to remove all local data. Email support@dateoptimizer.com to request deletion of all server-side data. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
- Opt out of emails — unsubscribe link is included in every email.
- Export your data — available through the extension's backup feature.
9. Third-Party Services
We may use third-party services for:
- Email delivery (Resend)
- Analytics (PostHog)
- AI image analysis (planned, not yet active) — to classify your profile photo types in a future update
- Server hosting (Railway)
These services have their own privacy policies. We only share the minimum data necessary for them to function.
10. Children's Privacy
DateOptimizer is not intended for use by anyone under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
11. Chrome Web Store Compliance
DateOptimizer's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. All data collected is used solely to provide and improve the extension's profile optimization features as described in this policy.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a notice in the extension. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
